Description: A large sheet gold alloy funerary mask worked in repoussé and embossing. The face is framed by raised borders and applied ear elements trimmed with small bosses. The eyes are fitted with circular metal cups from which extend thin projecting rods, creating a striking gaze. Numerous spade-shaped dangles suspend from the ears, jawline, cheeks, and mouth, adding movement and ceremonial presence. Masks of this type formed part of elite funerary regalia of the North Coast cultures of Peru and reflect the sophisticated metalworking traditions of the Sicán period. The mask remains in very good condition.
