Description: Sheet gold beaker of the Sicán culture decorated in repoussé with a frieze of three standing warrior figures holding staffs and wearing tall plumed headdresses. Beneath the figures runs a band of stylized feline or camelid-like heads with extended tongues encircling the rim. Vessels of this type were ceremonial drinking cups associated with elite feasting and ritual display in Sicán society. A refined example valued for its sculptural form and iconographic detail. Provenance: John Wise collection; acquired from Sotheby’s in 1968.
