Description: Decorated with embossed toads representing Bufo marinus, a species native to the arid north coast of Peru. The figures are distinguished by six sets of incised circular motifs suggesting the textured skin of the animal; most comparable vessels display only three or four such sets. The repeating amphibian imagery reflects the symbolic importance of the toad in north coast Andean belief systems, where it was associated with rain, fertility, and transformation. A desirable ceremonial vessel valued for its sculptural presence and refined metalworking.
