Description: Circular hammered sheet-gold ornament featuring a repoussé feline mask at the center, surrounded by concentric decorative bands and a ring of raised bosses. The stylized feline face displays prominent eyes, rounded nose, and bared teeth, motifs commonly associated with animal transformation imagery in the metalwork traditions of the Nariño and Capulí cultures of southwest Ecuador. Such ornaments typically included a suspension loop on the rim and were worn as ear ornaments or pendants as part of ceremonial attire. Weight: 26.7 grams. Alloy composition recorded as approximately gold 73.4%, silver 17.9%, and copper 8.3%. Provenance: Ex-Jan Mitchell Collection, prior to 1980.
