Description: A finely worked tumbaga plaque depicting an anthropomorphic face surrounded by radiating octopus tentacles. The composition reflects the marine symbolism characteristic of Moche iconography, in which sea creatures held powerful cosmological associations. Executed in thin hammered sheet with carefully cut openwork terminals, the plaque would likely have been worn as part of ceremonial regalia or attached to a textile or headdress. The striking radial design creates a dramatic visual presence while demonstrating the technical sophistication of Moche metalworking.
Provenance: Private collection, Switzerland; acquired in the Paris art market, 1965.
