Culture: Moche Region: Peru, North Coast Date/Origin: Circa AD 100–400 Type: Nose Ornament Material: Gold Dimensions: 5.5 x 7 cm Description: Domed sheet-gold nose ornament bordered by eighteen hollow gold spheres individually soldered to the perimeter. The upper edge features a crescent cutout allowing the ornament to rest beneath the nasal septum. Such ornaments were worn by elite individuals and are characteristic of Moche ceremonial regalia. The spherical elements create visual movement and reflect light, emphasizing the wearer’s status during ritual or public display.
